THE Paglaum Party, led by Governor Peter Unabia, and the Padayon Pilipino Party, headed by Congressman Yevgeny Vincente Emano, formally proclaimed their candidates for the May 2025 elections in Misamis Oriental on Sunday, September 29.

Governor Peter ‘Sr. Pedro’ Unabia will seek re-election, while incumbent Vice Governor Jeremy Jonahmar Pelaez will also run for re-election. Congressman Emano will run for Misamis Oriental’s 2nd District, while Christian Unabia will seek a second term in the 1st District.

The candidates for 1st District Board Members are Jabbie Bernaldez, Marlon Kho, Rommel Maslog, Rey Buhisan, and Roy Aniscal. Meanwhile, the 2nd District lineup includes Nancy Madjos, Dexter Yasay, Bliss Acain, Syrea Mae Emano, and Meraluna Salvaleon, the current mayor of Claveria.

New faces in the 2025 election include 36-year-old Joshua Unabia, son of Governor Unabia, who is running for mayor of Balingasag against Alexis Quiña. His brother, Congressman Christian Unabia, expressed confidence in Joshua’s leadership, citing his responsible management of the family business.

“I will fully support my brother. We can see that Balingasag faces many challenges,” said Christian Unabia.

A notable addition to the Paglaum Party is Edgar Lignes of El Salvador, who previously ran as an opposition candidate but is now seeking a mayoral bid under the coalition.

In Balingoan, Candy Unabia, wife of incumbent Mayor Aaron Unabia, is running for mayor.

In his speech, Congressman Unabia likened the election campaign to a challenging voyage.

“We are all in the same ship. When the campaign starts, we will all swim together, and we must help each other stay afloat,” he said. “Let’s hope no one sinks.”

Representative Emano called for a fair and peaceful election in May 2025, while Governor Unabia, founder of the Paglaum Party, reaffirmed his commitment to poverty reduction and humble public service.

“Being a mayor or councilor doesn’t mean acting like royalty. That’s not the true meaning of service,” he said.
